A Burning Hypothesis (Legends of Tomorrow)

For those who have yet to watch the Crisis On Earth X four part crossover event on the CW...

One of my favorite characters on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Martin Stein, one half of Firestorm, perished during the crossover event.

In one last act of selflessness, he drank a serum that severed the Firestorm matrix connection to Jefferson Jackson, so as not to drag Jax to the grave with him.  Stein died so Jax could live.

It was a heartbreaking end to an amazing character!  Of course, this was done because Victor Garber is making his return to Broadway where he will play the character of Horace Vandergelder in Hello, Dolly!

But where does that leave our Burning Man on the Legends team?  Is Firestorm gone completely?  Does Jefferson solely possess the Firestorm matrix?  Or does he need to find another partner?

Remember, after Ronnie Raymond tragically died, Martin Stein needed to stabilize the Firestorm matrix by finding a candidate with the same blood type.  That someone turned out to be Jefferson Jackson.

Now with Stein gone,  it could just so happen that Jax may have to find a candidate to stabilize the matrix.

Since Stein had Jefferson as a replacement for Ronnie, it seems only fitting that a Ronnie becomes a replacement for Stein.

Not Ronnie Raymond though...

Maybe the Waverider takes a trip 20-25 years into the future and Jax bonds with Martin's grandson.  It would be fitting and very poetic as Martin's last conversation with Jefferson was how he viewed Jax as a son.

FAM (Favorite Arrowverse Moments)

SPOILERS!!

Two awesome moments stood out for me last week, albeit for two very different reasons.

The first was the return of Deathstroke the Terminator on Arrow episode 6x5 Deathstroke Returns.  It's Slade versus a whole bunch of Jackals and it is so badass.

But for me, DC's Legends of Tomorrow is the most entertaining of the CW superhero shows.

Look no further than the resurrection of Damien Darhk in episode 6x5 Return of the Mack.  He obliterates the Time Bureau to the song of the same name as the episode's title.

How about you?  What's been your favorite moments this season?

At the conclusion of episode 1, we were introduced to this fellow:

Going by Prometheus, this killer appears to be the "big bad" that Oliver will face off with.  But who is behind the mask?

There are a few theories out there.  Is it Malcolm under a new guise?  Could Roy have returned? Or maybe Flashpoint resurrected a previously deceased character.  Robert Queen?  Shado?  Yao Fei? Perhaps.

I'm inclined to agree with the most common theory out there, that the villain is actually this man:

Tommy Merlyn is my pick for the man behind the mask.  But I don't think it had anything to do with Flashpoint, I think it had everything to do with the Lazarus Pit.

Some time after Sara was killed, Laurel and Thea brought her body to Nanda Parbat.  Malcolm was pretty adamant that the Pit bringing back the deceased hadn't been done for a really long time and even then "only in legend."  What if he was lying?

In the Arrow episode Restoration (Season 4, Episode 3) as Malcolm is denying Laurel and Thea, he has a tell.

The exact wording he uses is "Even if Sara went into the Pit, even if it worked, who...what came out of the Pit would not be Sara."

Between the "who" and the "what" verbiage, Malcolm's eyes dart to the side.  Now, he may have been looking at Nyssa, but what if he tried it before?  What if he submerged Tommy's body after his death?

Perhaps Malcolm kept Tommy hidden, training him prior to coming back to Starling City to rescue Thea.  Maybe Tommy has been part of the league all this time.

If Tommy had been resurrected and driven mad by the Pit's waters, he would have that same blood lust that Thea had. That urge to kill, along with the death of Laurel may have set the younger Merlyn on a road for revenge.

Remember, during the season 1 finale of Arrow (Episode 23 Sacrifice), Tommy dies saving Laurel. As he is dying, he asks Oliver if Laurel is safe.  As he is trying to ask Oliver for forgiveness for being so angry, he mentions, "I am my father."  Foreshadowing perhaps?

Researching the word at dictionary.com, I read that the word Prometheus in common culture is defined as "a symbol of lonely and valiant resistance to authority."  Oliver is the mayor now in Star City.  Something to think about.

MSHRPG: Day of the Octopus

Occasionally, I run a role playing game (RPG) called Marvel Superheroes.  It was originally published in 1984 by TSR.

There are a number of adventures where players can take the role of their favorite Marvel hero.  The hero's attributes (i.e. the player's skills) use what is called the FASERIP system (Fighting, Agility, Strength, Endurance, Reason, Intuition, Psyche).

I had previously run this game a few years ago.  While some of the core group remains, I have a few new players for these adventures.

Rather than using the predetermined heroes for each adventure, I let the players create their own characters and roll to determine their own superpowers.  I have also written my own stories/campaigns for these characters, but to ease the players in and get them acclimated to the game, I am using some standard 1984 campaign adventures.  Below is the recap of such adventures: Day of the Octopus.

Keep in mind a few things:
  • This was written in the early to mid 80's and is absolutely absurd.
  • In each write-up/recap, I provide clues for my players to solve.  Each clue is usually some comic book character gives them experience (aka karma).  This experience is used in order to make their characters more powerful and successful.  These clues are highlighted in red.
  • Since I have a mix of old and new players, I "killed off" the original team (which they named after a band called Anal C*nt aka AxCx) and made each of the player's characters from a different reality.
  • The basic plot is that they travel to multiple realities that the villain Kang has tainted (similar to the Exiles comic).

PART 1

 PED (Penrose Earth Date): 16030820

Thank you all for agreeing to help me with this task!  I am overjoyed you can all see how important this mission truly is to prevent the destruction of all reality.  After every expedition, I will recap your actions below.  Traversing multiple realities and dimension hopping can muddle up your memories and leave your mind a bit foggy.

To recap, four of you were pulled from your own realities and into mine.  Prime Earth.  Earth 616.  I chose you four as you are the bravest and most well-equipped for the dangers that have been unleashed.  You are:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[EDIT: Each character bio was written by their player.]

  • Mussolini

From: Earth 606 (1919)

How it differs from our Earth: In this time stream Mussolini is not a soon to be fascist dictator, but is still a minor politician.  He holds office at a local level and is interested in stopping the Communist threat to Europe and the world.  In his area of influence is a weapons research facility for the Italian army.  One of his thugs is the director of the facility, and Mussolini was given some of the tech to help his rise to power.  It was seen as an investment in the safety from Communists.
Mussolini lives only to defeat the evil Red Empire and their main evil hero, Batman.  Curse you, Batman!!!

  • The Crimson Stain
From: Earth 798 (2015)

How it differs from our Earth: The crimson stain is a relic of times past on his earth.  The people have come to know a time of relative peace. This being because the government had been quietly killing off the heroes. Mostly before they reach their first birthday. The crimson stains mother gave up her life hiding him from the government officials. Their black bag policy disappears anyone who tries to hide heroes. He was left in the woods by his mother as a last ditched effort to keep him away from the hands of the government. He lived with the animals using his powers to feed himself and sometimes to defend himself. After 6 years he was discovered by an elderly couple hiking through the woods. They had been lost for 2 days and ran out of drinkable water. The crimson stain found and provided the water and nourishment they needed. That one act of goodness set him off on a great journey to become a hero his mother wished for him.

  • The Great Visionary
From: Earth 769 (1926)

How it differs from our Earth: While there are many things that differ between my reality and yours, one of the bigger differences is the advancement of computers and AI; such things are much more advanced, even more so than they are today.

While researching high frequency/high power applications of bifilar coils utilizing an advanced augmented reality environment, there was (surprise!) an unrelated explosion.  This explosion created such a large impulse of energy that the bifilar coils that were being manipulated in the augmented reality not only became real, but they became implanted in the prefrontal cortex of Elon Musk, empowering him not only with the ability to manipulate sound, but also light.

Elon Musk, the Great Visionary, was born to an upper middle class family in Serbia.  His father, a member of the clergy and a technophobic, thought that technology would tear the family apart before tearing apart the world.  His mother, who could weave the finest silk even at an old age (Elon would say later on in life that she could tie 3 knots in an eyelash), was an inventor in her own right, and had created many inventions that assisted the Musk's in their day to day lives.  While his father wanted him to be in the clergy when he grew up, his mother insisted that he be allowed to live his own life.  While this created a lot of turmoil in the Musk household, the sudden and mysterious death of his father from a modified weaving loom relieved Elon from the fate of the clergy.

Upon completion of his studies at the Polytechnic School in Styria, Elon went on to the forefront of the Augmented Reality field, and many of his contributions are in wide use throughout Earth 769.  He still dreams of the day that one man helicopters are standard modes of transportation, and has begun work on one himiself.

  • The Armadillo
From: Earth 521 (1984)

How it differs from our Earth: After the Roswell crash in 1947, the aliens didn't just sit back. Instead of this primitive planet having access to their technology, they launched a nuke at the the site in 1949 and turned it into a horrible, radioactive crater. Fortunately for Earth, scientists had made very quick advances and spread the technology across the globe so that this one strike didn't destroy it all. Unfortunately for Earth, there was a nuclear winter and the peace and prosperity that was at hand soon disappeared, and the world was back at each other's throats.

The American Southwest was deemed uninhabitable, and the occupants left in droves. Some succumbed to the large doses of radiation. Many of these people had procreated in their time in the zone and gave birth to strange children. Large orphanages sprung up, and it seemed clear that while 99% of these children were weak and deformed, some of them were thriving.

John Doe 238 was a very durable child. Though somewhat slow witted, he had an ability to probe minds and this gave him the advantage that his slow brain needed. He was teased because of this, and to make matters worse, he developed claws. He currently goes by the nickname he was given in the orphanage, Claude Bawls. The American government soon caught wind of his powers and sought him out. Thankfully, one of the caretakers at the orphanage got advanced warning, packed Claude a bag, and got him out of there in time. While traveling east, Claude helped many strangers fight off marauding bandits looking for their share of the irradiated waste. He caught on with a group of families that were impressed with the child's physical and mental abilities and fondness for making armadillo stew. Never having a real name, Claude adopted his family's nickname for him as his crime fighting moniker, The Armadillo.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You were all teleported into my funeral home, Hoffs Dwarlar, which will serve as our base of operations.  Using my Lorentz, I showed you a news clip from a few weeks ago.  A team of heroes known as An*l C**t was ambushed and slain by Kang the Conqueror during an alien invasion led by Thanos himself.  Kang was upset at An*l C*nt for continually foiling his plans and decided to strike when they were distracted.

Kang also took this opportunity to relieve Thanos of some of his Infinity Gems, particularly the Time Gem and Soul Gem, the latter of which now had the souls of the fallen An*l C**t.  Upon grabbing the Time Gem, Kang siphoned off some of its power, giving him the ability to not only move throughout the 616 time stream, but the time stream of any reality. Taking this power for himself also caused the Soul Gem to shatter, sending the fragments into multiple realities.  Kang dropped the Time Gem, no longer needing it, and disappeared.

Kang is moving through multiple realities, including your own, and altering history as he desires.  He is posed to become the ruler of all reality.  I'm no doctor or lawyer, but I am smart enough to know this is not a good thing. He must be stopped!  I need you to travel to these realities and stop the ripple effect from Kang's machinations.

You will not be going in blind against Kang.  You will be joined by the sole surviving member of An*l C**t, Chester Copperpot.  He wants to find the missing Soul Gem fragments.  You see, An*l C**t fell right outside of Hoffs Dwarlar and I was able to recover their bodies.  Even in its depowered state, I used the discarded Time Gem to travel to the future and get the technology needed to restore the bodies of the fallen heroes.  All that we need now is the recovered fragments and I can bring the team back!  Once I came in the possession of the Lorentz, I was able to locate you and bring you here.

You each have been provided your own QUARC, a QUantum Alternate Reality Communicator.  This device allows you to communicate with me no matter which reality you are in.  It also has a healing agent which can instantly heal all wounds.  It can be used only once per day however.

Now fully geared up, you went to your first Kang-altered reality.  You were sent to a reality where Spider-Man, the Thing and Captain America had vanished.  In the original reality, Peter Parker was enjoying a picnic with his Aunt May under a large oak tree, Captain America was taking a stroll with his best gal Bernie down by the lake, and Ben Grimm was attending the opening of a new hospital wing.  These events were all in, or at the edge of, Central Park.  You were sent to these individual locations.

Armadillo and Great Visionary decided to keep an eye on May Parker.  It was a good thing too because they prevented a no good punk from robbing her.  While Armadillo calmed may down, Great Visionary (eventually) stopped the petty thug and returned her purse.  She was so grateful, she offered you the contents of her picnic basket - two great big pieces of Mott's Apple Pie!

While flying around and keeping an eye on Bernie, Mussolini saw two suspicious guys, Turk and Grotto, rush into the Krupp building across the street.  Going after them, he saw Turk reaching into a broken display case. No big deal!  Ensnaring missile bullseye!  And another for Grotto.  Michael Krupp, hearing the commotion from his office came out to see what was happening.  He was relieved that Turk wasn't able to steal the contents of the display case: blueprints for the original Mandroid armor, along with a suit from the initial production of the armor. Krupp was so thankful, that he let Mussolini keep the suit!

What happened when Chester and Crimson Stain checked out the hospital?

PART 2

PED: 16170820

While the other heroes were dealing with Aunt May's would-be mugger as well as Turk and Grotto, the Crimson Stain saved Aldo and his pretzel stand!

The police made their way to apprehend Turk and Grotto inside the Krupp building, causing a large crowd to gather around.  Our heroes followed to rendezvous with Mussolini inside the Krupp building.  Lucky thing they did, because they were ambushed! Scorpion, Radioactive Man, The Beetle and Fixer were no match for the team!

Radioactive Man set the building on fire and managed to escape with an unconscious Scorpion, but the team managed to apprehend The Beetle and Fixer.  Fixer mentioned something about Doctor Octopus using them as a diversion to steal the blueprints for the Mandroid armor and its power source, the  Solectropack, from the display case.  Fixer also mentioned Octavious' plans to build a giant robot to level the city!

The team used some clues (the dried black liquid on Beetle, the getaway van's license plate, witness interrogation)  to an LGM rental auto agency.  Rondo, a clerk at the agency gave up the name of Jim McGreed who frequented Squid's, a local tavern.

Making their way to Squid's, the team bribed the bartender (Moe) $20.00 to point out Jim.  The joke was on them though, as they over-bribed by $10.00.

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f71/thecrag1/DnD/moe-szyslak2.jpg

After questioning Jim and getting nowhere, The Great Visionary  proposed a wager, who could sink more balls on the pool table!  Lady luck was on the team's side and Jim told them all he knew:

A guy in a trench coat paid him the money to rent the van.  He had an oriental accent.  Before it was commandeered by the team, he was supposed to drop the van off afterwards at the Elliot building, near the old Globe printing building.

The team now has a good idea of where the villain's hideout is located.  Time to take down the Doctor!

PART 3

PED: 16240820

Between the clues that were discovered and Jim McGreed's information, Jerry's Kids had a pretty good idea that Doc Ock was holed up in the abandoned Globe building.  Wanting to be stealthy, Mussolini and The Armadillo flew up to the roof.  The rest of the team soon joined.  Not seeing any light passing through the skylights and hearing a low hum, JK decided to break the window after The Great Visionary reduced the sound on the glass.  Success!  They were able to get in!  Jerry's Kids saw cables running from each skylight.  They ran all the way down to the first floor.  Realizing these cords were powering something, the team cut the wires.

As they reached the first floor, they saw the Octobot, a huge robot ready to unleash havok on New York City!  What's worse, the thing looks exactly like Doc Ock!  Yeesh!  Some of the robot was hidden by 3 huge printing presses, so Mussolini and Armadillo decided to take to the air.  They saw a few figures hiding behind some shelves.  Chester, The Great Visionary and The Crimson Stain went to investigate.  They found Scorpion and Radioactive Man.  A fight ensued!  Radioactive Man decided to shoot out some Gamma radiation at Armadillo.  He is not a nice man!  Eventually, Visionary was able to grapple both of the villains.  While not an extraordinarily strong guy, he was able to hold them each long enough to take them out of the fight.

While this was going on, Mussolini and Armadillo spied Doc Ock maneuvering around the printing presses.  They decided to engage the dastardly villain!  Mussolini made many dark force statues and attacked!  It wasn't the first or maybe even the second, but eventually Mussolini's dark force statute was the knockout blow! As he was fading out, Otto spoke the word "rosebud," causing the robot to activate!  It smashed through the wall and was now on a warpath to bring NYC down!

Armadillo had also been attacking the Doc with mind bullets, but the printing presses came to life!  The Fixer had done some tinkering and had forged each one with a dozen Ock-like tentacles.  Using knockout gas, web bombs, rockets, laser beams and a sonic discharge, all of Jerry's Kids, save Crimson Stain who went rogue, were knocked unconscious and pulled into the presses.

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f71/thecrag1/TSR%20Marvel/Day%20of%20the%20Octopus/speech.png

Jerry's Kids all awoke in separate rooms.

The Great Visionary was locked in a 30 foot square room and it was quickly filling with sea water.  As GV was 14 feet tall and there was a hatch door 15 feet high, he didn't need a lifeguard to save him!  He did see and briefly scuffle with a squid though!  GV would have preferred it to be Ariel!

Armadillo and Chester were in the same room!  Chester was tied to a metal beam with his hands bound.  In front of him, there was a giant slingshot with a boulder loaded onto it.  Knowing this would not be a pleasant feeling, he turned into a gaseous form to escape.  It's a good thing too!  Because Armadillo had been hypnotized into firing the boulder, believing it to be Radioactive Man who had been tied to the beam.

Mussolini woke up in a chamber, enveloped in total darkness.  As air was running out, Mussolini used the point of a dark force statue to repeatedly stab an area of the wall and escape.

With the team now free, it was now time to end the Octobot!

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f71/thecrag1/TSR%20Marvel/Day%20of%20the%20Octopus/Capture1.png

(What could have been!)

Crimson had not turned coat, but was in fact tracking the robot as it was knocking buildings over like dominoes.  Jerry's Kids tried a number of attacks, but nothing seemed to penetrate its armor.  As a long shot, the team retrieved the slingshot from the previous trap and launched a vibranium Chester like a cannonball!  It hit and caused the robot to stagger!

As this battle was happening, The Great Visionary save a father and son (who may or may not have been Kord and Junebug) whose car had stalled in the robot's path.  Armadillo also save the life of a "slightly" effeminate photographer named Lance Bannon.

After noticing a hatch at the bottom of its right foot, Mussolini was able to time it, break open the hatch and enter the robot.  Making his way to the head, he saw the CPU!  While Armadillo was distracting it and the Chester/Great Visionary duo using the slingshot from the outside, Mussolini conjured many dark force statues internally. Jerry's Kids killed the robot and saved the day!

Fantasy Casting X-Factor Investigations

On episode 21 of my podcast, Free Your Geek, I discussed how I'd like to see a Netflix series based on the 2005 comic book  X-Factor Investigations.  It would combine the absurdity and meta humor of Community with the mystery of X-Files and the noir of Angel.

Below I've included who I'd like to see cast for each character.  Now the majority of Netflix's Marvel series cast lesser known actors in each role.  While I did try to stick to that template, there were a few A-list actors I  had to include.

1.  Jamie Madrox/The Multiple Man played by Justin Bartha

I feel that having played Doug in The Hangover movies, Bartha has the comedic ability to be Madrox.

2.  M played by Amber Stevens West

M is portrayed as this statuesque model and socialite.  Amber Stevens West (5'9") from 22 Jump Street could pull off the look.

3.  Layla Miller/Butterfly played by Dakota Fanning

Fanning is the perfect actor to play the child-now-turned-adult Layla Miller.  Her and Madrox's eventual romance would definitely have that "icky" feel.

4.  Rictor played by Diego Boneta

Diego, most recently known from the show Scream Queens, would be amazing as the depowered Rictor.

5.  Siryn/Banshee played by Annaliese van der Pol

Not only does she look the part, but Anneliese could use her amazing singing voice as part of Siryn's power set.

6.  Strong Guy played by Rob Archer

Just look at the size of this dude!  No, the one on the right!

7.  Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane played by Emma Watson

The only big current A-lister to be cast.  I think Emma's acting ability could perfectly portray both Rahne's fragile state and viciousness.

So what do you think of my casting choices?  Who would you pick?  Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.

J-Free Thinking: Batman v Superman

WARNING: Major Spoilers below.

A few things you should know before I begin:
  1. Batman is my favorite comic book character.
  2. I'm more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan.
  3. I'm not one of those purists that need the story to be "exactly like the source material."
With that out of the way, let me make a blanket statement: Batman v Superman was the worst super hero movie since Green Lantern.

While the movie did a lot of things right, it did so much more wrong. Let's break movie down to the positives and negatives. I will provide my thoughts on the following categories: characters, visuals, and story.

Characters

+ Ben Affleck's grizzled take on Bruce Wayne/Batman was one of the highlights. It really felt like this was a Batman that has been through some battles.

- As mentioned above, Batman is my favorite character and I'm not a comic book purist that needs the character to be exactly like the source material. However, there are some fundamental qualities that Batman must possess, the most important of which is that he doesn't kill. Batman should never cross that line. All of the pain and the torment he's suffered from since the murder of his parents is what drives him. His vow is to protect his city and its people but to never become the thing that made him who he is.

Unfortunately, this quality is nowhere in this film. Batman has no qualms about blowing up cars with people in them or using the thugs own guns against them. Bruce Wayne's childhood ended with the death of his parents, by two gunshots from a petty thief. Yet here is Batman, killing the bad guys with the same weapon that took his whole world. It seems as if the writers wanted to make him more Punisher-esque, which I'm not a fan of.

+ Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was excellent! She was the best character in the movie! Strong, powerful and kickass!

- I'm still not necessarily a fan of dark Superman. The S on his chest is supposed to be the Kryptonian symbol of hope.

- Lex Luthor's characterization was all over the place. Is he supposed to be a quirky genius? He kind of reminded me like one of the villains from the 60's Batman television show.

Visuals

+ Overall the visuals and effects were incredible! The Batcave looked awesome, as did the Batmobile. There were lots of explosions and car chases. The fight choreography was well done.

- The only real drawback was Doomsday and the CGI red lightning. It was not on par with the other effects.

+ My favorite shot of the whole movie happened within the first few minutes. We were again treated to Batman's origin story. Although it was a retread, there was a really cool shot of Martha Wayne's pearls caught between the hammer of the gun and the barrel. When the gun was fired, the hammer caused the necklace to break causing the iconic imagery of the pearls bouncing off the pavement.

Story

Perhaps my biggest issue with the movie was that there were the massive holes in the plot. Large, gaping holes. There's only so far I can suspend my disbelief.

- The Wayne's are murdered almost right in front of the movie theater. You can literally see the marquee in the shot as the thief approaches them. What kind of criminal would rob someone in such an open area?

- "Awesome, that photographer with Lois is Jimmy Olsen!" *Gunshot* "Well it was Jimmy Olsen!"

- Luthor told his assistant Mercy (another cool comic character) to save him a seat while Superman was going to talk to the Kansas senator, effectively sacrificing her in that explosion that served no purpose.

- Clark Kent remarks that Gotham's bat vigilante should be stopped. During the movie, it appears that only a large body of water separates Metropolis and Gotham. If Batman was really an issue, Superman could just fly over to Gotham while Batman was running around on rooftops and apprehend him. Hell, I drive 3 towns over to get Taco Bell.

- So Luthor uses Zod's fingerprints to get into the crashed Kryptonian ship. So he uses Zod's verification and the ship speaks English instead of Kryptonian. Then, recognizing Zod is dead, it just decides that Lex has full clearance to issue commands. Ugh.

- What was Luthor trying to do by creating Doomsday? What was the purpose?

- How did Luthor figure out both Superman and Batman's identity? Are we to assume he's a genius and just figured it out? Did the ship tell him? No explanation!

- How did Superman figure out Batman was Bruce Wayne? I assume it's because he heard Alfred in Bruce's earpiece, but they never confirmed it.

- But Batman, the world's greatest detective can't deduce Superman's identity. "Who is Martha?" That line made me cringe.

- Lois is a useless character in this movie. The scene that makes this apparent is when she is in what I believe to be Wayne Manor (I may be wrong). Some of the building is underwater. She finds the kryptonite spear and throws it into the water, letting it sink down to the floor of the room. Then magically, she realizes the heroes need it to defeat Doomsday (how?). But as she is trying to find it, the ceiling collapses, trapping her underwater. Basically, it's a thinly veiled plot device to make Lois a damsel in distress yet again.

- Too many fake out "dream sequences."

- Really not a fan of the movie version of Barry Allen. The jury is out on Aquaman and Cyborg.

- Batman kills people. That is not sitting right with me!

These are just some of the knee-jerk reactions I had after watching the film.

I'd give the movie a 4/10. Just below average.

What are your thoughts? Please feel free to agree or disagree or ask questions.

Thoughts on S2E5 episode of The Flash

Full disclosure: The Flash is my favorite superhero show on television.  It is like the characters and plot lines leap from the pages of the comic book and onto the television screen.  It is not overly dark and brooding, working in both humor and lightheartedness.

This current season has dealt with the notion of parallel worlds, namely Earth 2 and it's greatest threat: Zoom.  Below are some thoughts I had after viewing episode 5 of season 2 "The Darkness and the Light."

Spoilers if you haven't seen the episode.

5......

4.......

3........

2.........

1...........

  • Harrison Wells of Earth 2 is a total ass and it's amazing!  Tom Cavanagh is a fantastic actor, essentially playing the same character 3 different ways: Wells of Earth 1, Thawne as Wells, and Wells of Earth 2.
  • Finally Cisco has accepted his abilities.  Vibe has officially arrived!
  • Barry allowing Wells and Jay to get some of their aggression out on each other before intervening was entertaining.
  • I loved the Atlantis talk and how it's above water on Earth 2.  I totally geeked out when Jay said "One of my best friends is from there."  We need Aquaman to make an appearance.  Maybe season 3?
  • The Barry/Patty date was thoroughly enjoyable.  Patty Spivot's interaction with Barry is so charming and adorable.  Patty was wearing a Flash-colored dress.  And who knew Barry was so suave?
  • "Cisco, I don't think any of us would become evil if we all of a sudden got powers, even if they were from Dr. Wells." - Caitlin Snow.  Great allusion!
  • Caitlin didn't test positive as a meta-human when Wells used his device on her.  We've seen a glimpse of her as Killer Frost.  Similar to Linda Park (Earth 1) and Linda Park/Dr. Light (Earth 2), will we see the Cailin Snow/Killer Frost of Earth 2?

Thoughts?  Feedback?
